Sept. 8th, 2007:  25th Lighthouse Anniversary Celebration:

Around 80 visitors, including current and former volunteers of the Charlotte Genesee Lighthouse Historical Association gathered to commemorate Commander Alan Rosebrook of the United States Coast Guard handing over the keys of the Charlotte Light Station to Jim Beebe of the Charlotte Community Association on September 12, 1982.  This event was the beginning of a dream by many in the Charlotte area to refurbish and preserve the Lighthouse.  As we look back at the 25 years we see many dedicated volunteers who have lead the way to making a dream come true.

Below are photos taken by Doug Moran from the re-enactment of this historical occasion.

August 9, 2007:  Chris Franco Named Volunteer of Year 2007.  The Historical Society is proud to announce that the “Volunteer of the Year” for 2007 has been awarded to Christopher Franco, currently Vic-President of the Society.  President Fred Amato presented Mr. Franco with a plaque at the Semi-Annual Meeting of the Historical Society on Thursday, Aug. 9th.  Mr. Franco’s name was also inscribed on a plaque on permanent display in the Keeper’s house, honoring all past recipients of this annual award.

Christopher Franco has been involved in the lighthouse for many years, the last 6 as an active Board Member and Vic-President.  He has chaired the By-Laws Committee in 2004; he took over Chairperson of the Membership Committee this past year.  Mr. Franco reorganized the offices of the lighthouse for better efficiency.  He is currently working on a project to light up the outside of the Lighthouse Tower during the evening hours.

Mr. Franco thanked the Society and said, “I am thankful for the many volunteers that worked with me to make the lighthouse what it is today.  Without their help the job could not have been done”.

President Amato also presented Certificates of Appreciation to other volunteers, recognizing them for the wonderful work they are doing in preserving, displaying and teaching about the lighthouse to various visitors including many children from our local schools.
